- 1Choose a paint brand—there are 4 to pick from: Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, and Valspar.
- 2Filter colors by category—beiges, grays, greens, reds, blues, oranges—or type a color name or number into the search box. Search covers every category of the selected brand, and “grey” finds “gray” too.
- 3Select a color, then use the fullscreen button in the selected-color bar to fill your whole screen with it—a handy way to judge the shade in your room's real lighting.
- 4Upload a photo of your living room, bedroom or kitchen (JPG, PNG or WebP; on iPhone, pick it from your photo library). The photo stays on your device—nothing is uploaded.
- 5In Rectangle mode, place the chosen color over part of the photo. Drag, resize and adjust opacity to compare shades.
- 6In Recolor mode, click or tap a wall in the photo. The tool repaints the connected area whose color is similar to the spot you picked and keeps part of its original brightness, so shadows stay visible. If the color spills past the wall, lower the tolerance; if patches are left unpainted, raise it or tap them again. For walls with lots of detail, use Rectangle mode instead.
- 7Save the result as a PNG image—show it at the paint store or send it to your painter. Colors on screen are approximate, so confirm the shade with a physical sample.
